Maker Guilds was created in March of 2013 to bring the curriculum developed by The Exploratory to underserved communities for free. To date, it has run camps funded by Creative Artist Agency for 25 middle school girls from Title 1 schools in Los Angeles, helped over 18 communities in the US to do making projects, facilitated over 60 workshops for libraries all over Los Angeles, over 30 public free events to promote STEAM and Making and numerous special workshops sponsored by NASA, Google, local businesses and individuals. Maker Guilds also created the Making and Tinkering toolkit for Pearson Foundation, provided free workshops to over 150 educators and is currently running free programming at The Exploratory maker space for the underserved children in Inglewood, Culver City and Mar Vista.
Tinker.Make.Innovate.® Tribes: This unique program is provided free to local elementary and middle school students who live in Mar Vista, Culver City and Inglewood and Westchester who qualify for free lunch at Title 1 schools. It runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3-6pm. Students come and do homework assisted by volunteers and then take part in the Tinker.Make.Innovate. Tribes program where they gain valuable mindset and toolsets to be successful problem solvers and users of making tools like the 3D printer, laser cutter, electronics, robotics, coding, wood working and so much more. They are tasked with finding problems in their community and designing solutions using Design Thinking and the proprietary Tinker.Make.Innovate. process.

Google CS First : This coding program developed by Google using scratch is a series of 8 week classes where students learn to create their own video games, music & sound, storytelling, fashion & art. The materials are all provided by Google and facilitated by The Exploratory employees and Maker Guild volunteers.
Current session: Tuesdays starting Jan 20th from 4-5pm. Students come after school, finish their homework and then engage in the coding class from 4-5pm.
